The WSIA Internship Program annually awards paid summer internship to college students interested in an insurance career.  This nine-week opportunity offers students experience in both the underwriting and brokerage sides of the surplus lines marketplace by working with actual risks and learning alongside leaders in the industry. Interns will spend time in a variety of roles and departments including claims, data processing, accounting, operations, brokerage, human resources, marketing, and reinsurance and underwriting.

• Collection and analysis of health care claims and utilization data including cost projections and evaluations

• Assist in the Request For Proposal (RFP) process on behalf of a clients

• Assist senior consultants to review client needs, suitable approaches and implementation strategies

• Model employee benefits contributions to meet employer objectives

• Help prepare and write client communications, including reports, spreadsheets and presentations

Past Projects Include:

• Evaluation of a product expansion idea by analyzing insurance requests, market opportunity, competitor landscape and pricing

• Creation of training materials for new claims staff targeting issues that frequently arise during the claims process

• Development of a data capture tool to facilitate evaluation and analytics associated with hurricane claims experience

• Investigation of the human dynamics, business relationships, internal processes, and claims performance of insurance policies bound immediately prior to the 2018 landfall of Hurricane Irma
